The General Tyre Brand

The General Tyre Company and Rubber company was founded by William F O` Neill and his Partner Winfred E Rouse in 1915 and in the 1920s General tire engineers revolutionized tyre manufacturing concepts with the invention of the low pressure General Balloon Jumbos that required only 12 lbs of pressure ! This was the first of many innovations that helped the company become one of the tyre industries top manufacturers. During the 1930`s General began its process of international expansion in Mexico along with its second factory in opened in Waco, Texas in 1944 to help meet increased demand due to war efforts. In 1955 General became Original Equipment supplier for General Motors and continued to expand its manufacturing facilities in America along with opening the worlds largest tyre test track in 1973. In early 1987 Continental AG of Hanover, Germany, expressed an interest in purchasing General Tire and on October 30, 1987 the sale of General Tire to Continental AG from GenCorp was finalized. Since then the brand has continued to grow embracing the need for the design and production of extensive ranges of new Ultra High Performance car and 4x4 product ranges featuring many new patterns and UHP (Ultra High Performance) 4x4 All Terrain fitments not previously produced along with increasing production to facilitate over three million units per year from one of its American factories alone along with state of the art and the group employs over 168.000 people in forty five countries !

The General Tire engineering team continues to develop state-of-the-art technologies such as Duragen, 3D Sipe, V.A.I (Visual Alignment Indicator - a feature of tread design that allows for you to monitor even initial tyre wear shoulder to shoulder) and RTM (Replacement Tyre Monitor - a feature of tread design that allows for you to monitor overall tyre wear) technologies, images of which you can find below.
